Frequently Asked Questions:

Feedback is greatly appreciated. Please contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns. We need your feedback to grow.

Do You Accept Tips? How Much Should I Tip My Stylist?

Although we work as a team, we do not share tips. We appreciate gratuities and are flattered when you spoil us. Tipping in a hair salon is typically the same as restaurants. 20% for good service, 25% for exceptional service, and 30% for going above & beyond.

What Forms of Payment Does Asheville Hair Design Accept?

We accept all major credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. We do not accept cash, checks, or traveler’s checks.

What If I Don't Like My Hair?

We want you to be 100% satisfied with your hair. We know that your hair is important to you and we understand how upsetting it can be if you’re unhappy with the results. We will never get upset or angry with you if you’re unhappy with the results, and we will do what we can to make it right. As Hair Designers, we take the most realistic and healthy approach to achieving your hair goals. If you’re unhappy with your hair (within reason) we are happy to re-do your service for you.

My Stylist and I Didn't Click, Now What?

At Asheville Hair Design, we celebrate being a team. This means we don’t get upset seeing you in someone else’s chair. We encourage each guest to try different Hair Designers and enjoy all the talent our team has to offer. No Hair Designer is a master of all. We all specialize in different services and enjoy variety just as much as you do. If you find that you are not clicking with your Hair Designer, or if you just want to switch it up, feel free to reserve time with someone else. Each team member goes through a 6-9-month apprenticeship and skill certification so you can rest assured that you are in good hands. Staying within the salon also gives you peace of mind. Your formulas are in our database, we know your history, and it is much safer and more comforting being with those who know your hair. We embrace change and encourage you to switch it up from time to time. After all, variety is the spice of life.

Should I Pre-book My Services?

We recommend prebooking your next two appointments to ensure your desired day and time.

What If I Have Time Constraints?

Share your time constraints with us when booking so we can adjust accordingly. Be sure to share with your Hair Designer so they can adjust their timing as well.

Is My Stylist "Selling" Me Product To Make Cash For Themselves?

At Asheville Hair Design, we are a NON-COMMISSION salon. East staff member gets paid a salary – a nice salary – which means that when we recommend additional products and services, we actually believe you need them. We have no hidden agenda. We will never pressure you or make you feel like you are being forced to buy anything. We want you to achieve your hair goals. We don’t “sell products,” we recommend solutions and tools to hair problems. If you share with us you hate your frizz and you love that extra volume, we will show you how to achieve these results. We are also here to help educate you about your hair. We honestly believe that if you can't do your hair at home, we haven't done our job.

What Shampoo Do I Use? Does Shampoo Really Matter?

Shampoo is a critical factor when it comes to color maintenance. Our hair color is guaranteed for 6 weeks when you use the recommended shampoo and conditioner. If you leave our chair and purchase $2 shampoo at the local drugstore, we cannot guarantee your results. When you shampoo the hair, hot water, and the difference in pH open the hair cuticle (where color and proteins are stored), and your shampoo cleans and cleanses the inner parts of the hair. When you use harsh/cheap shampoos that are full of additives, sulfates, and fillers, the color washes out and fades 30% after your first shampoo. When you use the recommended shampoo (each Hair Designer is armed with the knowledge you need to know) that Asheville Hair Design offers, we guarantee your color will last.

What If I Have Box Color Or Henna In My Hair?

Box color and Henna are very tricky factors added to the color service. You must always disclose the presence of box color or henna for the safety of your hair. We change our entire formulation based on if there is box color or henna in the hair. When box color or henna is present in the hair it is automatically charged as a color correction. The reason we do this is so that we don’t have to charge you for every bowl of color we use. Box color and henna usually call for additional treatments, toners, and other services that can add up to over $500 if charged a la carte. Box color and henna take control away from the hairdresser and diminish all predictability we usually have with professional hair color. For this reason, we must charge based on time. Color corrections and extreme makeovers usually take 2-3 sessions. During your design consultation, your Hair Designer will be honest and realistic when determining the right path to take in achieving your goals.

I Am A New Guest, Can I Get An Exact Quote Over The Phone?

If our base pricing isn’t enough information for you, and you need specific pricing details, we are happy to have a complimentary design consultation with you.

What Factors Go Into Pricing?

Many factors go into pricing our services. For starters, we sell time. All prices are mainly based on how long each service takes. Therefore, a full highlight is more of an investment than a half head of highlights or a root touch up. Length, density, and condition of hair also play a huge role in pricing. Someone with long, thick, unruly hair takes more time than someone with fine straight hair to apply color or even for styling. These decisions are made during the consultation. If you have specific questions about pricing, be sure to ask your stylist so they can have clear communication of expectations and budget restrictions. Also, arriving with clean, dry hair may make your service slightly quicker, cutting down the time it takes to perform the service.

Can I Come With Wet Hair?

If you are enjoying a haircut experience and wish to arrive with your hair washed, you are more than welcome to arrive with wet hair, however, you'll be missing out on the best part of the service! We really love giving those scalp massages! Guests who arrive with wet hair for a color services may be charged for an additional blow drying. Color needs to be applied on clean, dry hair. We don’t mind drying you, but additional time and charges may be applied.

How Much Will My Hair Cost?

The prices posted on our website are BASE prices and are subject to change based on length, thickness, and condition of hair. We are very fair and work extremely hard to deliver your beauty goals. With that being said, we must charge accordingly for long, thick, curly, or unruly hair. To save time and money we recommend arriving to your service with clean, dry hair. The longer it takes for us to complete the service the more expensive it can get. At Asheville Hair Design we work with all budgets and are happy to help you figure out a hairstyle and maintenance plan that is affordable for you. We understand being on a budget and offer promotions for referrals as well. Ask your Hair Designer about these promotions. We strive to deliver a high-end experience that can be enjoyed by guests with all budgets.

What Should I Disclose In My Design Consultation?

The design consultation is the most critical part of your service. Your Hair Designer wants to deliver unforgettable and amazing results every single time they do your hair; to achieve this, your stylist needs to know everything. The most important part of any relationship is COMMUNICATION, and we want to be sure that we are always on the same page with you. If you have questions or concerns, feel comfortable sharing with us how you feel, and your expectations and we will be sure to do the same! We want you to feel comfortable with us, we never take anything personally and strive to deliver the results you desire within reason. What you should share with your Hair Designer includes, but is not limited to: well water, regular swimming in chlorine, past major chemical services, the presence of chemical relaxers or perms, BOX COLOR, HENNA, medication, allergies, previous bleaching services, keratin treatments or products, at home treatments, your current product regimen, things you love about your hair, and things you wish you could change about your hair.

Should I Arrive Early? What If I Am Late For My Reservation?

We ask that you arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your reservation. This gives you time to check in, get comfortable and enjoy your design consultation. Guests who arrive more than 10 minutes late may not be guaranteed their full service. For example, a guest arriving 15-30 minutes late may not get to receive a blow dry. We do our best, but we must stay on schedule for all who reserved time. If you are running a few minutes late we understand. Things happen. Always plan on arriving 5-10 minutes before your appointment so you can enjoy a relaxing and full experience.
